The major festival season of 2011 has only just started, but it is already difficult to get tickets for some events. It is therefore good that there is such a great selection of alternatives. Music from classical to pop, venues from lake stages to industrial plants, theatre, dance – the festival summer of 2011 has a lot to offer.
The Moselle Music Festival 2011 offers the “Classical Vineyard” programme, which lasts from 2 June to 3 October 2011, includes unusual venues from a synagogue and a vineyard to a bell-casting workshop and has an unusual repertoire. Approximately 50 concerts in 30 venues along the river Moselle offer a wide spectrum of classical music. The Romantik Jugendstilhotel Bellevue is the ideal starting point for discovering the cultural and culinary treasures of the Moselle. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, when the venue still had another name, it had been a home away from home for famous people such as Baron von Thyssen and the actor Heinz Ruehmann.
The unusual title “Glatt & Verkehrt” (“Plain & Purl”) (27 to 31 July 2011) refers to Austria’s largest festival for traditional music from all over the world, which is held in Krems. It weaves a colourful carpet of sounds – from Mexican rhythms to dance music for Nubian weddings. The Romantik Hotel Richard Loewenherz (Richard the Lionheart) in Dürnstein, which has medieval origins, is just a few kilometres from Krems. The Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Site, can be discovered by boat and by bicycle.
The old Swiss city of Avenche was built on the foundations of the Roman Aventicum, the most important city in Switzerland at that time. The picturesque, medieval town centre and the Roman remains are major attractions for visitors. From 2 to 16 July 2011, the Roman amphitheatre is the venue for the annual opera festival. This year, “Rigoletto” by Guiseppe Verdi will be presented.
The Romantik Hotel de L’Ours in Sugiez and the Romantik Hotel & Restaurant Du Sauvage in Fribourg are good starting points for exploring the Waadt/Fribourg provincial border region.
The Romantik Hotel Santer in Toblach, Southern Tyrol, offers two attractions this summer. First, there are the Gustav Mahler Weeks from 16 July to 7 August 2011. The famous composer had spent his summer holidays between 1908 and 1910 in this region, where he created some of his most famous works. This event is followed by the Southern Tyrol Festival from 16 to 25 September 2011. The Romantik Hotel has compiled attractive programmes for both events that include several concert attendances and two menus with several courses (as part of the Gustav Mahler Music Weeks for 82 euros).
A selection of festivals is shown here and the appropriate cultural packages can be booked here as well.
